Preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Catherine (Kathleen) and his sister Grace, Jim is survived by his sister Ann, brother in law Tom (deceased); nephews Sean and wife Shelly; Marty and wife Natasha, and niece Kathleen and wife Christy, and six grand nieces and nephews: Gus, Charlie, Adele, Alice, Piper, and Ramona.
Jim graduated from Feitshans High School, attended Springfield College in Illinois, and earned his C.P.A. from Sangamon State. Jim served his country with duty and honor in the Army from September 1965 - September 1967. He received the Good Conduct medal, the Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, and National Defence medal. He served the city of Springfield as a member of the fire department, rising to the rank of Battalion Fire Chief.
In life, Jim was a power with which to be reckoned. He loved his family, a good debate, and was seldom lacking for words. Books and libraries were his friends. He was always planning a new deal or reading, a love of his since his youth.
Gifted with his mind and hands, he built his and Gracie's own homes. He had a great respect for all of life. His cat Sweetie and dog Chico were his dear friends. He will be missed by his old-time Fire dept buddies, Donna, Nancy, and fellow neighbors, as well as cousins and family all over the United States, Ireland, and England.
Jim's service will be at Sacred Heart Church at noon on Friday, March 13 and he will be interred at Cavalry Cemetery in Springfield.
