James Harlie Robinson, 86, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Suzanne Widegren Robinson; his four children Cynthia Robinson (David Goldfield), Cecelia Mader (Bob), Andrew Robinson (David Stone), and Alexander Robinson (Linda); his grandchildren Sadie, Connie, Julia, Madeline, Finley and Sullivan; and his nieces and nephews Frances Fisher, Karen Chandler, Butch LeDoux, and Jeanine LeDoux.

Jim was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 10, 1939 to Edith (Southern) and Harlie Robinson and was preceded in death by his two sisters Lois Chandler (Don) and Dorothy LeDoux (Marv). He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin and then joined Shell Oil Company in 1967. Jim's career at Shell as a geophysicist made a profound impact with the method of interpreting seismic data as he was known for his "deep reflections". Shell enriched his life not only intellectually but with the many deep friendships with colleagues that endured throughout his life.

Jim loved cooking, eating, traveling, music, and theater. He had a sharp wit, and loved telling stories, jokes, and terrible dad puns over many long meals and around the campfire. His greatest love and dedication was to his family and friends. He thanks each of you for allowing him to be part of his journey throughout life.

Services will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church (717 Sage Road Houston, Texas) on March 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM. We welcome you to come and celebrate a life lived with love, curiosity, and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to either St. Martin's Episcopal Church Houston, TX; The Parkinson's Foundation; Houston Pets Alive; Gospel in Life New York; or the charity of your choice.
