Mr. James Michael Sitton, age 81, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A man of quiet strength and enduring character, he leaves a legacy of resilience, craftsmanship, and deep devotion to his family.
Born on September 13, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, James, affectionately known to many as Bill, Mike, Tex, or Sitton, grew up with a spirit of curiosity and a love of the natural world that would shape much of his life. After serving his country with honor during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969 as a radar repairman, he returned home with steady resolve and a commitment to building a meaningful life.
James pursued higher education at New Mexico State University, earning his bachelor's degree in Business in 1972. His career led him into the lumber and steel industries, where he worked primarily as a broker for Georgia-Pacific. Over the years, he also lent his expertise to Boise Cascade and later to Kruse Enterprises. His work was marked by diligence and integrity, qualities that defined every aspect of his life.
Beyond his career, James was a builder in every sense of the word. He built his own adobe home in Corrales, New Mexico. He found joy in constructing things that would last. Whether it was crafting something new or restoring what had been worn down by time, he approached each task with patience, determination, and a willingness to learn new skills.
His desire to connect with the land led him to trade his beloved 850 Triumph motorcycle for a truck and a couple of horses. He found peace in horseback riding and took pride in raising chickens, pheasants, quail, and the occasional Thanksgiving turkey.
James had an enduring love for reading, particularly science fiction, mysteries, and books about the universe. These interests reflected his inquisitive mind and lifelong fascination with how things worked. He also enjoyed long walks that allowed him to connect with nature at his own pace.
Though he was a man of few words, those who knew him understood the depth behind each one he chose to speak. His quiet presence carried weight; it offered comfort without pretense and wisdom without boastfulness. There was an unmistakable boyish charm about him that never faded with age.
James is survived by his devoted wife Joyce Love Sitton; daughter Cheryl Ann Coyle; sons Brian Scott Sitton and Eric Michael Sitton; grandchildren Anthony Robert Pelot, Kaitlyn Marie Coyle, Dakota Kay Coyle, Jeremy James Sitton, Amelia Michelle Sitton, and Victoria Grace Sitton; sister Kelly Lessli; and brother Randy Sitton.
He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Sitton, and mother, Frances Workman.
May the memory of Mr. James Michael Sitton bring comfort to all who knew him, and may the quiet strength he embodied continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Wear your favorite denim in his honor; he was a "Forever in Blue Jeans" kind of guy.
