James Paul "Jim" Theis, of Prior Lake, Minnesota, passed away on November 22, 2025, in his hometown at the age of 68. Born on October 23, 1957, also in Prior Lake, Jim's life was a rich tapestry woven with resilience, wisdom, and an enduring love for family and learning.
Though he left high school early to pursue new opportunities in California, Jim's thirst for knowledge never waned. He later earned his G.E.D. and remained a lifelong learner. His passion for reading and consuming information was a defining trait—one that he passed on to his daughters through the powerful mantra: "knowledge is power."
Jim built a proud career as a machinist. He found great joy in his work and often came home eager to share stories about the exciting projects he helped create. His enthusiasm extended beyond his own accomplishments; he took pride in mentoring younger machinists and sharing his expertise with colleagues. His dedication to craftsmanship and teaching left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
Outside of work, Jim was known for his magnetic personality and quick wit. A natural storyteller with a joke always at the ready, he brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. Whether enjoying a cocktail with friends or swapping tales around the table with family, Jim had a way of making every gathering memorable.
In his younger years, Jim found freedom on two wheels—riding his motorcycle brought him joy and adventure. He also loved playing pool and poker, always up for some friendly competition. An outdoorsman at heart, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping under the stars, biking through town, or shooting hoops with his kids. These moments reflected not only his zest for life but also the deep bond he shared with those closest to him.
Jim's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Theis; daughters Brianna Thompson (husband Mike) and Lilly McClure (husband Josh); and grandchildren Liam, Theodore, and Dutton—each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his sisters Dorthy Clemen, Doris Theis, and Bonnie (Joe) Theis; sisters-in-law Diana Cracauer and Gwen (Myron) Will; brother-in-law Craig (Judy) Plekkenpol; along with many extended family members and lifelong friends who cherished his presence.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Luverne and Herbert Theis; brother Herbert Theis; brother-in-law Bruce Clemen; parents-in-law Joan and Paul Plekkenpol; brother-in-law Dave Plekkenpol; and brother-in-law Cliff Cracauer.
Throughout his life, Jim embodied strength and kindness. He was thoughtful yet strong-willed—a man full of great advice who offered comfort through both words and actions. As a child he was sweetly rambunctious, always on the move- and that energy never left him. His friendships stood the test of time because they were built on loyalty, humor, and heart.
Jim leaves behind not just memories but a legacy of resilience, wisdom, laughter—and above all—love.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 30, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM at Spring Lake Township Hall 20381 Fairlawn Avenue. We will be celebrating Jim's life and joyous moments. Please join and share in his love of storytelling and gathering with loved ones.
