James B. Vosters Jr. (78) passed away on December 16, 2025. He lost his hard and courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He passed away peacefully, at home, in Stuart, Florida surrounded by family. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and great friend. He will be deeply missed by so many.
Jim was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but grew up in Miami, FL where he graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School in 1965. He then attended Wake Forest University where he graduated with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In addition, Jim held a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.
Jim started his career with Vosters Nurseries, Inc. in Miami, Florida and developed extensive experience in the Horticultural Industry. In Jim's true entrepreneur style, he went on to found Vosters Insurance in 2010 where he has been associated with Hortica, a brand of Sentry Insurance Group and The Florists' Mutual Insurance Company, for the past 30 years. In 1994 he initiated the development of the Nursery Crop Insurance program for Hortica and trained many of their agents. Throughout his career, Jim worked closely with many insurance providers including Rain & Hail, RCIS, ARMtech, and Hudson on the Nursery Crop program. He was also an active participant in many industry associations. Jim has held offices which include President of the Southern Chapter of the Florida Foliage Association, Vice President of the Florida Foliage Association, President of the Foliage Marketing Institute, Chairman of the Growers Division of the Society of American Florists, and Board Member of the Society of American Florists.
Jim particularly enjoyed flying both as a career and a hobby. He was a distinguished graduate of his helicopter training school. He served in the Army at the 155th Aviation Company in Monterey, California.
Jim also enjoyed clay sport shooting. He spent many enjoyable days at the OK Gun Corral in Okeechobee where he was part of the "Clay Crackers" organization. The Clay Crackers adopted him into their organization as a brother and embraced him with true friendship.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Susan of 55 years, his three sons; Brian James, Mark Lawrence and Douglas Buchanan, his two daughters-in-law's, Nicole and Nancy, and five beloved grandchildren; Mackenzie, Paxton, Paityn, Rylee and Knox. He also leaves behind his three siblings: Jonathan Vosters of Fort Collins, Colorado, Julie Hammond of Lenexa, Kansas, and Jennifer Kaloti of Miami, Florida and cherished nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jane Kimmick and James B. Vosters Sr. of Miami, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests donations in his memory to Blood Cancer United (formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society).
