James (Jim) Alan Yates
(March 28, 1947 - December 25, 2025)

Jim Yates, age 78, passed away on December 25, 2025. He was born on March 28, 1947, near São Paulo, Brazil. Jim deeply loved his family and helped them in every way he could—whatever they needed, he was always there. He was known as one of the hardest-working and toughest men one could meet. Throughout his career, Jim earned an excellent reputation in the steel industry as a problem solver and was often sent to high-rise construction projects to resolve complex challenges that even engineers could not figure out.

Jim’s friends and family also appreciated his quick wit and sense of humor. He often introduced one of his children by saying, “They got their good looks from me—because their mama still has hers!” followed by a big, infectious smile. He had an endless supply of witty remarks that will be missed.

Jim generously volunteered his time, skills, labor, and resources to help those in need, never seeking recognition. You didn’t have to ask him; if he knew you needed help, he was there. He had a strong love for his God, Jehovah, and enjoyed sharing Bible truths with anyone who would listen. His faith remained strong until the very end.

In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed gardening with his wife Cheryl, riding his motorcycle, singing Hank Williams songs at karaoke, scuba diving, spending time at the coast with Cheryl, and enjoying a good meal—especially Cheryl’s cooking, which was always his favorite. Above all else, Jim most enjoyed being with his family.

On August 2, 1964, Jim married Cheryl Snider, the love of his life, in Weatherford, Texas. They shared 61 years of marriage marked by love, loyalty, and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Yates, and their children: Ron Yates (Mechelle), Greg Yates (Sally), Abbie Taylor (Dale), and Nate Yates (Jolene); his grandchildren Rachelle Yates-Perreria, Ashton Woolley, Tristan Yates, Justus Yates, and Bella Ichord. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

Jim was deeply loved by his family and many friends and will be dearly missed, with the Bible’s sure hope of seeing him again.
