Jan Bennett Minatre, a woman known for her warmth and generosity and deep love for her family and friends, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love that touched countless lives.
Born on March 24, 1953, in Sun Valley, Idaho, Jan entered the world at the Sun Valley Lodge during its brief time as a hospital—long before it became the renowned tourist destination it is today. Growing up in the Sun Valley area, she was a vibrant and outgoing spirit, actively involved in numerous clubs at Wood River High School. After graduation, Jan moved to Boise to attend Boise State University and decide on her future career. It was there that she met the love of her life, Dirk Minatre. The couple exchanged vows on August 2, 1975, in her beloved Sun Valley. Together, Jan and Dirk built a life rich with adventure and family. They settled in Spokane, Washington, to raise their two children, then enjoyed 11 treasured years in Tucson, Arizona. A short stint in California followed, but their hearts ultimately led them back to Boise, Idaho, in 2014—a homecoming to her roots that Jan embraced with profound pride.
Throughout her life, Jan embraced various roles, with one of her favorites being a teacher’s aide in the local school district, supporting children with special needs. Her gentle patience and genuine compassion made her a favorite among her students, who adored her as much as she cherished them. Yet, the role that brought her the greatest joy was that of wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
An avid traveler, Jan delighted in exploring the world with family and friends, particularly on cruise ships where memories were made amid sunsets and open seas.
Above all, Jan was renowned for her generous and loving heart. She possessed an extraordinary knack for spoiling those she held dear, always the first to offer a helping hand or thoughtful gesture to anyone in need. Whether anonymously treating police officers to lunch or coffee, or providing unwavering support, Jan personified selflessness and pure joy.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Dirk Minatre; her children, Nic Minatre and Taryn Morais (Josh Morais); her grandchildren, Madison and Taylor Morais; and her sister, Gay Hurst.
Jan will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love and joy she brought to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
