Jane Morgan Alexandre

Jane Morgan Alexandre of Tarrytown, NY was born on May 3, 1954 in Mineola, NY to John Clement Alexandre and Frances Mae Gordon Alexandre. She died on February 16, 2026 at age 71 from ALS.

Jane received a nursing degree from Queens University (Canada), an MA from Antioch University (Ohio), an MS from Pace University (New York) and a PhD in Leadership and Social Change from Antioch University.

She worked in the New York dance world for more than 30 years as a performer, writer, teacher, choreographer, director, producer and administrator. As a Tarrytown resident for over 40 years, she was instrumental in ensuring access to dance for all in the community, guided by principles best described in her own words:

“I hold the convictions that dance is an intrinsic and universal human activity; that each of us has a social responsibility to all others; and that the opportunity to reach our individual capabilities in every realm is a basic human right."

In recent years, she served as a lecturer in theology and the arts at Union Theological Seminary, and was Co-founder and Editor of The Dancer-Citizen. She was a member of Morningside Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Eliot Moshman; her daughters Joanna Moshman (Matt Belsito), Erica Moshman (Antony Clements), and Jill Moshman; four grandchildren - Norah, Jack, Sydney, and Oliver; sister Faith Alexandre; and 8 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Peter Alexandre and sister Martha Alexandre.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Friends Service Committee and the Student Support Fund at Union Theological Seminary.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 12 noon at Ackerman Hall, entrance at 12 West Elizabeth Street, Tarrytown, NY 10591.
