Jane Rathbun, 92, of Peace Dale, Rhode Island, passed away on November 28, 2025.
Jane, the daughter of John T. and Hannah (Garfield) Mentges was born in Wausau Wisconsin on July 7, 1933. She is survived by her two beloved sons; Robert John Rathbun of Peace Dale, RI and Peter Anthony Rathbun of Jacksonville, NC. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many close friends.
Jane was on the Dean's List and graduated with honors from the University of Rhode Island (Class of 1971). She was a teacher in the North Kingstown School Department for over 25 years and retired in 1996.
Volunteering within the community was one of Jane's passions. She dedicated her time at the local senior center and also at Insight Radio, where she produced and broadcast her unique program called "Garden Gate." Jane was also a member of the National Education Association, AARP, Omicron Nu (The American Society for Home Economics), and the local senior center's art and history group and book club.
Jane had a flair for interior design and creating beautiful gardens and welcoming spaces. She appreciated all that Mother Nature had to offer and was most at peace within these surroundings. She also loved to travel, read, dance and listen to music. She was an optimistic and caring soul with a zest for life.
Jane's kindness, wit, sense of humor and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
