Our beloved mother, Janet Cope-Porter-Buffalow found peace as she passed on January 10th, 2026 in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her children, who were the greatest love of her life.

Born on May 6th, 1937 in Kendallville, Indiana to John and Leota. Janet attended Avilla High School, where she graduated before beginning a life defined by service to others and deep devotion to family. In 1964, she moved to California, where she would reside for the remainder of her life and build a lasting legacy within her community.

Janet worked at the Mayfair Market for over 20 years. While Mayfair was her career, her life's work extended far beyond her profession as she dedicated herself to being of service to others with a special commitment to American veterans. She was an active member of the American Legion Post 26 and volunteered countless hours of service to the brave men and women who served her country. She contributed time and effort to several other veteran causes that remained close to her heart.

As an avid lover of the outdoors, Janet found joy in camping, fishing and spending time with her family in the peace and serenity of nature, often with a cold drink in hand and laughter nearby. Above all else, her greatest passion was her family. She emphasized and embodied the importance of family through her actions, her values, and the love she gave to her children and their families so freely.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her loving husbands. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Sheila and Ron Vogel, Vic and Vivian Cope, Lana and Don Abbott, and Gayle Cope. She is also survived by her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and joy in her life.

Janet will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff serving at Hoffman Hospice and special mention of sincere thanks to Chaplain Don and nurses Nubia and Brian. The value of their compassion and company through this time has been immeasurable. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Hoffman Hospice in Janet's memory.
