Janet Leeman-Downes, 69, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on May 19, 1956, in Orange, New Jersey.
Janet was self-assured and free-spirited, known for a smile that lit up the room and a gentle irreverence that endeared her to many. She lived a full and meaningful life as a dedicated homemaker, business leader, and spiritual mentor. Guided by her faith, she devoted many years to youth ministry, helping lead countless children and families to the Lord through service and example.
Janet was the beloved wife of Joseph Michael Downes, her soul mate of 47 years. Together they shared a beautiful life marked by deep love and unwavering devotion. She took great pride in her role as a mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her world.
Janet is survived by her children, Jeremy Downes, Aubrey Downes, and Bridget Keefe; her son-in-law, Kyle Keefe; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Downes; her grandchildren, Abigail and Beckett Keefe; her sisters, Emily Clare and Mary Catherine; her brother, John; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Allan Leeman; her mother, Margaret McElwee Leeman; and her brother, Allan.
