Janet Lee Walker (née Stevenson), age 89, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, in Winfield, Illinois. Born on January 5, 1936, in Lewes, Delaware, Janet lived a life marked by compassion, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Janet was the beloved wife of the late William Walker Sr., with whom she shared many cherished years. Together they raised four children: William Walker Jr., Donald Walker, Matthew Walker (Rita), and Michele Hanson (Ben). Her legacy continues through her eight grandchildren—Patrick, Joshua, Lida, Will, Jack, Katie, Sophia, and Grace—each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
A registered nurse by profession, Janet dedicated most of her career to geriatrics. She possessed a rare gift for caring for others and continued working well into her seventies. Her gentle spirit and nurturing heart touched countless lives throughout her years of service.
Janet's deep Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord with all her heart and found strength and purpose in her relationship with Jesus Christ. Her faith was evident in every aspect of her life—from leading Awana groups at her church to singing hymns at a local nursing home. She participated actively in church activities and found great joy in sharing God's love with others.
In addition to her professional and spiritual commitments, Janet embraced life fully through simple pleasures. She enjoyed golfing, walking with friends, and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren. Whether cheering them on at events or sharing quiet moments together, she delighted in their presence.
Though Alzheimer's disease and dementia affected her final years by stealing many memories, they never dimmed the light of her spirit or the depth of her love. Janet is now home with the Lord she so faithfully served—free from suffering and embraced by eternal peace.
