Lois Jean "JEANNIE" Carter, 77 of Decatur IL, went into the arms of Jesus January 9, 2026 surrounded by love from her family. Her selfless, caring wishes were whole body donation.
Visitation will start at 10am followed by Memorial Service at 11am on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N. Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL.
She was born on March 12, 1948 in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Russell and Amy Carter.
Her greatest joy in life was her faith in Jesus and the blessings of her family. Surviving are her children Kori (Jeff) Harder of Pontiac, Jennifer (Steve) Gensler of Decatur, Scott Carter of Warrensburg and Amy (Mike) Haberman of Virginia, IL. She was Grandma to 18 grandchildren, Matt, Kyle (Juanita), Sarah, Rachael (Josh), Drew (Andi), Adam (Rachel), Brittney, Sydney (Felicia), Savannah, Brooke (Cole), Brandi (Austin) and 29 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Bella, Sophia, Grace, Harlan, Garrett, Caleb, Bentley, Payton, Maverick, Rowan, Hudson, Drake, Roman, Palmer, Warner, Ellie, Eli, Grayson, Gavin, Berkley, Baylor, Bexley, Brynlee, Bostyn, Finnley, Charlie & James. Sister Judy Betzer of Arco, ID, Brother Rusty Carter of Ashdown, AR, Sister-in-law Judy Carter of Decatur, IL, and nieces & nephews.
She was a 1966 graduate of Decatur MacArthur HS. Her first car was a Chevelle SS and she liked sharing stories of her drag racing days & beating the boys. She attended college in Kansas. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She loved teaching the kindergarten Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the University of Illinois where she was a secretary for the Decatur extension office. She enjoyed phone conversations with family and friends and taught us to love unconditionally.
She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Jeanine Noel, identical twin to Jennifer, sister Pat (Charlie) Farmer, brother Chuck Carter, nephews Terry and Craig, great grandson Cashton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
