Jean Louise Stegen (née Roehrs), age 95, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan. Born on April 17, 1930, in Washington, Missouri, as the beloved daughter of Emil and Amelia Roehrs. She grew up in Missouri where she met and married LeRoy Stegen. Together they moved to Michigan in 1965. Jean and LeRoy shared many years of partnership until his passing in 2011. Jean's life was marked by devotion and service to her family, her faith, and her community.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Debra (Earl) LaFontaine; sons Richard (Vicki) Stegen and Randal Stegen; grandchildren John (Maya) LaFontaine, Emily (Matt) Rutledge, James (Stephanie) LaFontaine, Amanda Stegen, and Benjamin Stegen; as well as great-grandchildren Leah, Connor, Nora, Hannah, Alex, Quinn, and Zoe. Each member of her family held a special place in Jean's heart, especially Randy through her passionate support of Special Olympics, Community Opportunity Center (COC), and the ARC of NW Wayne County.
Jean's faith was a guiding force throughout her life and her commitment to service. She was deeply involved with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and contributed to its congregation in countless ways. Whether participating in bible study groups or lending a hand at rummage sales and social events. She also found joy in nurturing relationships among friends and relatives. Her warmth created a sense of unity that will be cherished by all who were part of her life.
Jean also found fulfillment through her hobbies and interests. She was an avid bowler who enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition of the lanes. Travel brought her happiness as well; she relished opportunities to explore new places throughout the US and Canada. They created many lasting memories along the way.
A Memorial Service for Jean Louise Stegen will be held on March 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 39020 Five Mile Road, Livonia, MI. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM preceding the service. All are invited to join the family for lunch at Holy Trinity following the service.
