Jeanne Marguerite Charrette Barnes, born December 15, 1933, in West Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away November 12, 2025 surrounded by love. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Vernon Barnes, tenderly caring for him until his passing.
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Florence Charrette; her sisters, Bertha Parenteau and Irene Bomley. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Menard of Myrtle Beach; her son, David; her daughter, Donna Toney, and son-in-law, James Toney of Lexington. Jeanne leaves behind four grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy. She will also be deeply missed by many friends, cousins, nurses, aides, and co-workers who held her in high regard.
A woman of deep compassion and service, Jeanne gave generously to her community and church, as a Legion of Mary at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lexington, SC & at Augustine in Union, SC. She volunteered with hospice care and participated in homebound outreach, offering comfort, companionship, and kindness wherever she could.
Jeanne faced life's challenges with a remarkably positive attitude. Even through illness, she kept her sense of humor—joking, laughing, and lifting others' spirits. She loved her family dearly, especially her three sisters with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Jeanne enjoyed traveling, spending time with her loved ones, reading, playing card games, and—of course—BINGO.
Her legacy is one of love, laughter, service, and resilience. Jeanne will be forever cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
