Jefferson (Jeff) B. Yeakel, age 92, passed peacefully at home on February 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Kanawha, Iowa, Jeff spent part of his youth in Minneapolis before returning home to graduate from Kanawha High School in 1951. He went on to attend Iowa State University before entering the United States Army, serving on active duty from 1955 to 1957. Following his military service, Jeff re-enrolled at Iowa State University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Advertising and Marketing. He then began his career with General Mills, with one of his early assignments in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy Neville. They were married in 1963.
Jeff went on to build a distinguished 40-year career with General Mills, primarily in Minneapolis, rising through the Sales Division to senior leadership roles, including Vice President of Sales for the Eastern Zone and Senior Vice President of Sales for General Mills Canada. He was widely respected for his business judgment, disciplined approach, and the leadership he provided across the organization. A strong advocate for training and development, Jeff mentored many who would go on to become leaders themselves, leaving a lasting mark on the company well beyond his retirement in 1998.
Jeff enjoyed playing golf, following horse racing, time spent with close friends, and the quiet satisfaction of helping others. Above all, he cherished time with his family. His grandchildren, Jack and Ford, brought him immense pride and joy, and he treasured every opportunity to encourage and support them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Yeakel; his sister, Amy Carlson; and his parents, Maynard Yeakel and Leona Yeakel.
Jeff is survived by his children: Marci Yeakel (Alpharetta, GA), Jeffrey Yeakel (Plano, TX), and Lori (Andrew) Nicholas (Edina, MN); his beloved grandchildren, Jack and Ford; and many relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Anamosa, Iowa at a later date.
