Jennifer Smith

Jennifer passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Methodist Hospital Southlake. She was born on October 27,1950 to the late Cleo and Vera Culver-Sutton, the youngest of eight.

Jennifer graduated from West Side High School, class of 1971.
She then received an Associate Degree in Accounting from Indiana Vocational Technical Community College.

Arthur Betts and Jennifer Culver were united in marriage, who preceded her in death. On September 29,1990, Juneus Smith and Jennifer united in marriage, who preceded her in death.

Jennifer was a member of Mount Zion M. B. Church, East Chicago, Indiana where she served on the usher board until her health failed her. She was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (Flotilla 09W-01-06-55). Jennifer retired from Methodist Hospital Northlake

Jennifer loved being with family, especially those grands and great grands. She loved spending time with people she met. She had a pleasant personality. She loved to travel.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her parents: Cleo and Vera Culver-Sutton, seven siblings: Harry, Vivian, Hersey, Delores, Joseph, Lawerence and Cleo.

She leaves to cherish her memory, loving, devoted daughter, Jennifer Betts; granddaughter, Kierrah Joiner; grandson, Vernon Joiner; great granddaughters, Amberly Carter, Avery Joiner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation, Wednesday January 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All services at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue Gary, Indiana 46404.
