Mr. Jerome "Jeong Hoon" Cho, aged 92, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Rockville, Maryland. Born on September 25, 1933, in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, South Korea, Mr. Cho led a remarkable life dedicated to education, creativity, and his beloved family.
Mr. Cho’s academic journey began at Suncheon National High School in 1951. He earned a bachelor's degree in English education from Seoul National University in 1956 and later completed a master’s degree in English literature at Soonsil University in 1980. His passion for learning and teaching defined his career as an educator and mentor to countless students.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Cho taught at several esteemed institutions, including Jeong Il College Prep Academy, Seoul Daegwang High School, Seoul Kyungdong High School, Chonnam National University, Iri Namsung High School, and Jeonju Shinheung High School. His dedication to education profoundly influenced the lives of his students. In 1959, Mr. Cho also served his country through Korean military service.
In 1986, he and his family moved to the United States and settled in Maryland for nearly four decades. During this time, he worked with the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority and operated various businesses in the Washington D.C. area. His family grew to include thirty-one members with great-grandchildren and anticipated two more great-grandchildren this year.
A gifted writer and artist, Mr. Cho authored three novels in Korean and one in English. His love for nature inspired his oil paintings that beautifully captured its essence. A devoted Christian, his faith guided him throughout his life.
He was married for 64 years and survived with Jeong Sook Lee; their children—Hyun Joo, Soo Ahn, Soo Yeon, Soo Jin, and Si Hyung; fourteen grandchildren; and extended family. He was predeceased by one daughter, Eun Kyu.
A funeral service will be held on April 28, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Global Mission Church (13421 Georgia Avenue). Dinner will follow at Arirang Korean Restaurant (1314 E Gude Dr., Rockville).
