Jerrie Lynn (Sumpter) Hopkins passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 13, 1934, in Iowa, Jerrie spent her early years in Los Angeles, California, with her mother, Dorothy G.
Booth, and her sisters, Cydnie Grammer and Chris Sage.
From childhood, she was deeply passionate about dance. Together with her sisters, she formed a dance troupe that toured with the United Service Organizations (USO), performing for military audiences across the country. During a tour to Alaska, Jerrie met Bob Sumpter, who became her husband and the father of their five daughters:
Shari, Karen (who preceded her in death), Jeanie, Susan, and Robyne.
Throughout her life, Jerrie remained devoted to the performing arts. She taught dancing, singing and performance to her daughters and, for many years in Manteca, California, served as a respected instructor in the community. She choreographed numerous productions, directed 4-H performances, and guided young people, earning lasting affection and respect.
Her talents extended far beyond dance. Jerrie created elaborate decorated cakes, painted with skill and
imagination, designed and constructed theatrical sets, sewed detailed costumes, and practiced calligraphy of
exceptional beauty. Each endeavor reflected her dedication and care.
Jerrie was an animal lover and often took care of stray or unwanted animals. Her dog Lily was always at her side and misses her terribly.
Above all, Jerrie was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love for her family was profound and unwavering.
Known for her strength of spirit, she offered constant encouragement, support, and protection to her loved ones.
Jerrie is survived by her daughters Shari Sumpter, Jeanie Larson, Susan Sumpter, and Robyne Teslich and husband Nick; her chosen daughter Constance Hay; her grandchildren Michelle Lennert, Jilaena Freitas, Bobby
Larson, Amy Bottsford, and Sarah Reynosa; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and many others whose lives she touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen, the father of her children Robert "Bob" Sumpter, and her late husband Floyd Hopkins.
Jerrie will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. She is now in heaven, resting in His presence as God designed
