“Jerry” Edwin Stephens

1952 - 2026

Edwin Stephens, known to his friends and family as Jerry, Dad,and Papaw was called home on March 24,2026 . He was surrounded by his family at his much loved earth home in Santo,Texas
Jerry graduated from Victoria high School in 1970.
He served as a cryptologic technician(CTR) in the U.S.Navy from 1972-1976 and was discharged in Corpus Christi,Tx. He took a job at DuPont where he worked for three years. He then went to Del Mar College and graduated as a court reporter.
Jerry was a dreamer. He believed that you should always be looking forward to the next adventure.
He loved his job as a court reporter and retired three different times. In spite of that he began traveling in the last few years, including a Viking Cruise to New Zealand just this past January.
Jerry also love his home in the country and taking care of his cattle.
Most of all he loved people, especially his family and his church family. He was an active member of Patillo Baptist Church which soon became an extended family to him. Jerry loved his family deeply and was deeply loved by them.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Herman Stephens, and mother, Hazel Samples Stephens.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Lea Sosebee Stephens and their two children: Jennifer Villarreal and Christopher Stephens. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Jordan Stephens, Addison Covey, and Serenity Stephens. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Steve Stephens, and sister-in-law, Debbie, of Victoria, Texas as well as his son-in-law, Joseph Daniel Villareal and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends
Memorial Service will be at Patillo Baptist Church on March 28,2026 at 1 pm.
