Jimmy Ray Montgomery, 74, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 29, 1951 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Jim was the son of Ray and Reba Montgomery. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1969, where he played on the golf team. During his youth, he worked as a caddy and taught swim lessons at the Chickasha Country Club. He worked at his father's truck stop—early experiences that shaped his strong work ethic.
Jim went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1975 with a degree in accounting. That same year he met the love of his life, Susan Montgomery. They married the next year and went on to have three children, Brenna, Erin, and Kyle. In 1976, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where Jim began his professional career and eventually opened his own CPA practice. He served on the board of the Dallas Chapter of CPAs and was a member of the Hella Shriners. His leadership, quick wit, and integrity earned him the admiration of his peers and friends alike. A respected and trusted CPA, Jim proudly served his clients—many of whom remained clients and became lifelong friends—for nearly 40 years. His son and daughter-in-law continue to carry on his legacy through the family business.
Outside of work, Jim found joy on the golf course and in cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners. He was a devoted dad who coached many of his children's sports teams, always trying to be encouraging (even if it meant hollering as loud as he could or throwing cold water at them as they ran by)! Also despite the torture to his family and friends, he loved when he got to pass gas in their direction. In addition to his human family, Jim had a great love for animals and owned many loyal dogs over the years. Jim lived life with a mischievous grin and a keen wit. He will be remembered for his humor as he took great joy in seeing others laugh.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Reba Montgomery; sisters, Paula Fitzpatrick and Janet Randle; brother-in-law Charlie Randle; nephew, Kelly Fitzpatrick; and sisters-in-law, Pam Lusk and Regina Brannock.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Montgomery; their children, Brenna Delbert, Erin Rae Montgomery, and Kyle Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Stephany Montgomery; and grandchildren, Peyton Bonnell, Kaylee Montgomery, Monty Tolbert, Gavin Montgomery, and Jeffrey Delbert; along with extended family and countless friends in Texas and Oklahoma who will cherish his memory.
