Jo Ann Squire

Jo Ann Squire, 79, of Wichita, KS, passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Born Jo Ann Compston on June 16, 1946, in Leavenworth, KS. Jo spent her formative years attending Delaware Elementary in Delaware, OK and Humboldt High School in Humboldt, KS and later in life earning her Associates degree from Wichita State University. Jo's professional life spanned many careers and was marked by her meticulous attention to detail and dedication. She worked in various capacities including Quality Control and Assembly at Ross/Kustom Electronics of Chanute, KS, as Head Teller at Mid-Continent Bank in El Dorado, KS, and as a Certification Clerk at Exacta Aerospace in Wichita, KS from which she retired from in 2017. A loving mother and devoted wife, Jo was known for her kind and nurturing nature, coupled with an excellent sense of humor that endeared her to all those in her presence. Motherhood began early for Jo Ann starting right out of high school with her marriage to Loren Korte and her first children, daughter, Lisa (David) Wrestler and son, Mike (Shannon) Korte. She later remarried to Stanley Squire with whom she had a son, Steven (Tanya) Squire and daughter, Stephany Squire. She also gained a step-son, Doug (Jennifer) Squire. Stan and Jo were set to celebrate their 50th Anniversary in September of this year. Jo's family at the time of her passing had grown to a grand total of 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren - all of which she loved and cared for deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Helen Compston (Langworthy), and her grandson, Andrew Squire and great-granddaughter Reagan Sampson. Jo's hobbies and interests painted the picture of a vibrant, active woman who loved gardening, high-stakes gambling, and shopping the local antique stores and estate sales with her husband Stan. She was also an accomplished bowler, having won a state championship, and dedicated time to supporting Shriners Children's Hospital. Contributions in memory of Jo Ann Squire can be made to The Shriners Children's Hospital and/or The Gentiva Foundation. Graveside services will be announced at a later date in Humboldt, KS, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory.
