Joan Bristow was born in Lancaster, PA, to George and Barbara Halbleib, the youngest of three children, and passed peacefully at the age of 89 in Perkasie, PA. After graduating from Camp Hill High School in her hometown, she attended Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA, where she earned her R.N. degree. Joan continued her education by achieving a B.S. degree from St. Joseph's College in ME, and a M.A. in Health Care Administration from Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ.
Joan lived on the East and West Coasts throughout her life and spent time and vacations with her children and grandchildren. This included visits and sightseeing to nearly 50 states, many state and national parks and monuments, the islands of Hawaii, and time learning about wine while living in Napa, CA. Her international travels included adventures to the countries of Ireland, Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Puerto Rico. Some of her favorite adventures were parasailing at 60, camel riding at 76, zip lining at 78, sky diving at 80 and glider flying at 82.
Joan was preceded in death by her third child and son Eric Paul Bristow, and former husband, Quentin Paul Bristow. She is survived by her children: Quentin Daniel Bristow (wife Maureen), Nadene Force (husband Charles), Gretchen Barron (husband John); grandchildren: Alexandra, Christian, Savannah, Kelly, Katie, Julie, Mason, Amanda, Kimberly, and Jennifer; great grandchildren: Leo and Lucy. Per her wishes, Joan's ashes were returned to nature in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California.
