Joan Good passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026 at the age of 95 in Weatherford, Texas. Born on October 24, 1930 in Hughes Springs, Texas to Ludia Ray Shelton and Granville G. Shelton she grew up on a farm in Cass County with her parents, sisters Dorothy (Strickland) and June (Perkins) and brother LeGran Shelton. In 1943, Ludia and Granville moved to Fort Worth with their three youngest children where they lived for a short time and eventually settled in Texarkana. Joan graduated from Texas High School in 1947 and continued her education at Texarkana Junior College, earning her degree in 1950. In 1951, she married Jack Good and the couple moved to Grand Prairie where they lived happily for 50 years. Their home was a favorite gathering place for family and friends over the years; many wonderful memories were made there.

A devoted Christian, Joan was an active member of First Baptist Church Grand Prairie for over 40 years. In 2001, she and Jack moved to Weatherford where she joined First Baptist there. Her faith was central to her life, and she shared it with pretty much everyone!

Joan was a joyful person with a passion for creativity and the outdoors. In retirement she especially enjoyed fishing and traveling with Jack to Colorado for the summers and South Padre in winter. She also loved painting with watercolor. A special one was created each year - a picture of her mother's homeplace in east Texas. It would be entered in a raffle at the Ray Reunion in October, and everyone would be so excited to see who would take it home!

Over the years, Joan had several short stories published in local magazines. Her love for storytelling led her to self-publish a book, "Uncle Spencer Who Went to Texas:" A Shelton Family History. It was truly a labor of love for Joan and lasting treasure for the family.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Jack Good and beloved son, Jack Clayton (Clay) Good. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Jonie Smith (Michael), sons Cole Good and John Good (Kathy), and daughter-in-law Marti Good; as well as her grandchildren Alex Smith, Rachel Vandergriff (Garrett), Amanda Smith (Juan), Will Good, Danny Good, Carly Estes (Skip), Jett Good and Jud Good; four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held on April 20, 2026, 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Grand Prairie, 950 Mayfield Road.
