Joan Brush Heymann of Ellicott City, Maryland went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2022, following a short illness. Born in Huntington, New York in 1930 to Kathleen and Clarence Brush she was the youngest of two children, brother Royal Sammis Brush. Joan accepted Christ at the age of 13 at Jack Wertzen's Word of Life camp in upstate New York. Graduated from Huntington High School in 1948 where she excelled in her studies, played basketball, and was a member of the Huntington Concert Band. Married to Lee Middleton Cotter in 1952 she became a devoted wife and mother to two children, Donna Lee and Kenneth.
Her life was fully devoted to serving God in all ways, as a wife, mother, and pastors' wife always providing an example to all of what a truly Christian person should be both in her personal and public life, caring and giving to everyone she came in contact with. A truly gifted singer, always a member of the church choir, and a member of the singing group The Alleluias who ministered locally, as well as during mission trips in Australia and England. In 1992 she married William Charles Heymann and continued in her devotion to him for 20 years. She is best remembered for kindness always thinking of the needs of others.
There are certain people whose legacy extends beyond several generations, hers is one of them. The love she showed was a reflection of Christ's love. Her influence and prayers extended beyond her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to those she mentored and interacted with, always providing a prayerful, Christian example so powerful that it continues to impact her family today, as well as the families of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Lee Pipkin, her son Kenneth Brush Cotter, her grandchildren Christopher Lee Pipkin, Jason David Pipkin, Randall Brush Cotter, and Kathleen Stuart Davenport.
