Joan Lorna Jones (Clemence), 89, of Bradenton Florida passed away on January 13, 2026. She was the wife of 69 years to Roland Augustus Jones. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Dudley Alan and Louise (Hirst) Clemence Jr. She resided in Cranston for many years in her childhood home with her beloved grandfather Dudley Alan Clemence Sr., "Bub", whom she adored and cared for. In 1986 she fulfilled a long held desire and relocated to the state of Florida.
Mrs. Jones worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse with a focus on the care of the elderly and infirm. Later in her career she returned to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. She worked in several local nursing homes and was affectionately known as "Joanie" to those in her care. She was notorious for clandestinely treating patients to doughnuts and other frowned upon treats on her overnight shifts. Her devotion and advocacy for stray and abused pets was surpassed only by the love and nurturing she provided to more than sixty foster children for whom she made a home. Joan and Roland opened their home to foster and adopted children who they loved and cared for as their own.
She is survived by children Susan Laroche of Bradenton, Florida, Mark Jones and his wife Zahra of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; Jenna, Timothy, Melinda, David, Megan, Ryan, Michael and Jason Jones; grandchildren Danielle Boyett, Nicole and husband William Calhoun, Tanya and Kamran Jones; great grandchildren Camilla and Regan Boyett and Isaac and Ella Calhoun. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roland (d.2022).
Funeral and burial services will be private. Her family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff of Casa Mora Rehabilitation and Extended Care in Bradenton, FL for their devotion and care.
