Joan Ida Rado, 93, of Stanhope, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Deborah Vomero and Lisa (Brian) O'Connell; her sister, Ilene (John) Wilson; her grandchildren, John Chmielowiec, Brittany (Mackenzie) Leeds, Delaney O'Connell, and Owen O'Connell; as well as her niece, Christine (Jim) Teffenhart; and nephews John Wilson, Eric (Sukha) Wilson, Matthew (Monica) Wilson, and Evan Wilson.

Joan lived life with quiet strength and extraordinary compassion. She was preceded in death by her first husband Vincent Zito, her son Richard Zito, and her second husband Richard Rado. She faced these losses with grace and courage.

Joan was born in 1932 in Hudson, New York to John and Lena Keil. She completed nursing school at Passaic General Hospital in 1952, where she formed life-long friendships with several of her classmates. Joan led a life of service, caring for patients at Passaic General Hospital and Chilton Memorial Hospital as a floor nurse, recovery room nurse, and hospital admissions nurse before retiring in 1997.

Joan was beloved by her family, friends, and community, and was always quick to share her kind heart and nurturing spirit. She was especially fond of history and her many treasured cats. Later in life, Joan traveled with friends and family, enjoying many adventures abroad. She had a deep sense of family, staying connected with relatives in New Hampshire, North Carolina, and upstate New York. Together with her sister, she chronicled their family's history, bringing to life the stories of their ancestors. She passed her love of learning and sense of great compassion to her grandchildren.

Joan will be remembered for her resilience, her sense of humor, and her limitless ability to provide care and comfort to all who knew her.
