Sandwich, NH - Joan C. Wright, 95, formerly of Center Sandwich, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025. She was born and raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. She was married to Robert E. ("Bob") Wright, and they moved to Sandwich, New Hampshire in 1960.
Joan spent her life in service to her community. She worked for the Town of Sandwich as a secretary from 1962 to 1974, and served as a Selectperson in Sandwich from 1973 to 1976, among the first women in town to serve in that capacity. Joan also worked as administrative support for W. M. Design Group and Century 21, both in Center Harbor. She and her husband Bob were resident directors at the ABC (A Better Chance) House in Concord, and for sixteen summers hosted Fresh Air children at their home. They were also state-certified foster parents. She served on the Sandwich Senior Housing Committee, Sandwich Historical Society and Sandwich Conservation Commission. Joan was a dedicated parishioner of St. Andrew's in the Valley Episcopal Church in Tamworth, and served on the Altar Guild. She was also involved with the Community Food Center in Tamworth.
Joan loved to quilt and helped teach quilting as part of the Sandwich 4-H program.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Wright. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Eric and Linda Wright; and her son and daughter-in-law Robert Wright and Judith Orth. She is also survived by her foster daughter, Deb Anderson and her wife Diana Anderson.
There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held at a future date.
