Joann Frances Jungmann
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Partner
Age 78, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.
She is survived by her son, William (Ester) Jungmann; her granddaughter, Lisa Jungmann; and her nieces and nephews: Eric (Amy) Jungmann, Kari (Brian) Henning, Jason Jungmann, and Jennifer Jungmann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregory ("Greg") James Jungmann and Barbara ("Barb") Jean (Gollenberg) Jungmann, and her brother, James ("Jimmy") Gregory Jungmann.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved partner of 20 years, Michael Holmes. Though they were never officially married, they shared a bond as strong as any marriage and built a life filled with love and companionship. In accordance with her wishes, she will be laid to rest with Michael at Old Frontenac Cemetery in Frontenac, Minnesota.
Joann had a strong traveling spirit from a young age. At 12, she moved with her family from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to North Saint Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from North Saint Paul High School, she embraced every opportunity to explore the world. Her travels took her across the United States and to Europe, though her favorite place to call home was Colorado, where she lived for over 20 years.
Her love of travel inspired her son, and she found great joy in hearing stories of his journeys to far-off places. She also treasured many trips to Florida with family. In her memory, she requested that a lemon tree be planted—a symbol to remind us all to make the best of what we have and to appreciate each day.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life followed by inurnment at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Old Frontenac Cemetery, 34779 Green Street, Frontenac, Minnesota. The service will conclude at 12:00 p.m.
Joann was lovingly known as "Jo" in her younger years in North Saint Paul and "Lucy" later in life among her friends in Denver. She had a gift for bringing people together—organizing neighbors for card games, meals, and long conversations. Her frequent group outings to local buffets were legendary, often keeping managers on their toes as her lively group arrived. Her friends would often joke, in a playful Desi Arnaz-style accent, "Lucy, you've got a lot of 'splaining to do!"—a reflection of her spirited nature and the joy she brought to those around her.
Though many dear friends passed before her, Joann was fortunate to speak with loved ones in the days before her passing, sharing her genuine love and appreciation for each of them.
