JoAnn Nussbaum, longtime resident of San Antonio, TX, passed away on Saturday, December 27th at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Belle Fourche, SD, on October 5, 1945, JoAnn married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Charles Nussbaum. While working in banking she earned her "putting hubby through college" degree at the University of Wyoming. Later, as her family grew, they moved to Denver, CO, where she skillfully balanced raising her children and continued her career in banking.

In 1978, the family relocated to San Antonio, where JoAnn fully embraced her role as a devoted mother. She volunteered at her children's schools and transported her oldest son, Steve, to swim and tennis practices, as well as meets. At the same time, she supported her youngest son, Robby, in little league and bicycle racing. Her dedication earned her the award of "Mother of the Year" for the racing district.

Beyond her school volunteer work, JoAnn was passionate about community service. She served as the president of the Junior Forum of San Antonio. JoAnn loved golf and was the past President of the Women's Golf association at Oak Hills Country Club.

JoAnn was steadfast in her faith and lived her life to reflect Christ's love. She cherished her Church family at Christ Episcopal Church, finding joy in various ministry works over the years.

She had an unbreakable bond with her beloved granddaughter, Katie Carol Nussbaum-Stauth. Their relationship was a beacon of warmth and inspiration, reminding all who knew them of the enduring power of love and family. As Katie welcomes her own child, she will undoubtedly draw upon the lessons and love shared with her Gammy, ensuring JoAnn's legacy continues to shine brightly in the hearts of future generations.

JoAnn had a remarkable ability to connect with others. Her infectious personality, warm smile, and enduring laughter filled every room with joy, and she will be deeply missed. She created priceless moments that will forever warm our hearts.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Bill Nussbaum; children Steve Nussbaum and his wife Kim, Robby Nussbaum and Tricia O'Connell; granddaughter Katie Stauth and her husband USAF Captain Alex Stauth. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Jim Sorenson of Las Vegas, NV, brother-in-law Jerry Heinbaugh along with many other relatives, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and George Sorenson, her brother George Sorenson Jr., sister-in-law Gerry Heinbaugh, all from Belle Fourche, SD and Patsy Heil of Riverton, WY.

A celebration of life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio on January 16th, 2026, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception with family and friends hosted by the Ladies of Christ Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be conducted by The Rev. Scott Kitayama.
