Windham- Joel Parks Myhaver, 72, passed on January 12, 2026, after a cardiac arrest while skiing at Sunday River in Maine one week prior. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Joel lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to his family and passions.
Born on June 9, 1953, in Kansas, Joel grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors. He graduated from Cheverus High School in 1971, where he had played tennis and ran cross-country. He spent much of his career working with his hands, mastering skills that are increasingly rare. Joel worked as a hand-stitcher at Sebago Moccasin and later Songo Shoe for many years. Afterward, he transitioned to leading an HVAC crew, traveling across Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire to install systems in hospitals, schools, and industrial buildings. His craftsmanship and leadership left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
Joel’s personal life was defined by his deep devotion to his family. He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Marie. Their bond was extraordinary; they were inseparable partners in life. Marie passed away just five days after Joel’s death—a testament to their profound connection. Together they raised two daughters: Rachelle Holt (Cory) and Marybeth Myhaver. Joel adored his grandchildren, Jackson and Garrett Holt, cherishing every moment spent playing with them during their younger years.
Joel also leaves behind a large and loving extended family: his siblings Mark Myhaver; Kurt Myhaver (Susan Howe); Liz Jackson (Mike); Tim Myhaver; Jim Myhaver (Karen); Ginger Myhaver (Brian Pellinen); Andrea Myhaver; Alex Myhaver; as well as many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents John and Beverly Myhaver; his brother John Myhaver; and his sister Margaret Myhaver.
An avid outdoorsman and adventurer at heart, Joel found joy in hiking New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks—a feat he proudly completed—and skiing down snowy slopes. Music was another passion that defined him; he was a talented guitarist, songwriter, and bandmate. He loved jamming with his brothers.
Joel read voraciously, often dominating the family Jeopardy game. A loyal fan of the Patriots and Red Sox, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams through victories and defeats alike.
In retirement, Joel’s unwavering commitment to Marie became even more evident as her health declined. He cared for her at home with tenderness and patience, ensuring she felt loved and dignified every day. From arranging regular hair appointments to assisting her in and out of her chair. Sitting together on the couch became a luxury whether watching his sports programs or her soap operas. Joel exemplified selflessness in its purest form.
Joel’s sudden passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew him. His legacy is one of love: for his family above all else; for music that stirred the soul; for mountains that challenged the spirit; and for life itself lived fully despite its challenges.
May memories of Joel bring comfort to all who mourn him now. A Celebration of Life for Joel and Marie will be held on March 29, 2026, 02:00 PM
at The Little Meeting House 719 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, ME
