Johanna Lee (Gerlinger) Schoepfer, lovingly known as Lee, daughter of Alphonse M. and Josephine C. Gerlinger passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, in Bluffton, South Carolina, at the age of 77. Born on March 28, 1948, in Queens, New York, she lived a life marked by faith, generosity, and a deep passion for teaching and helping others.
Lee pursued her education at Oneonta and continued with postgraduate work at CW Post. Her dedication to learning and teaching was a cornerstone of her life. She believed strongly in the power of education and instilled this value in those around her. Teaching was not just a profession for Lee; it was a calling that reflected her commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering growth.
A woman of strong faith, Lee was an active member of the Adoration Society and devoted much of her time to serving others. She volunteered at Bluffton Self Help, where she worked tirelessly to support those in need. Her generosity and compassion left an indelible mark on the community she served.
Lee's greatest pride was her daughter, Kristi Lynn, who followed in her footsteps as an educator and taught at Winthrop University. The bond between mother and daughter was one of love and mutual admiration, rooted in shared values and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Lee is survived by her beloved sisters Patricia, Paula, and Danielle, nieces Joanne, Genevieve, Andrea, Gillian and Sophia, nephews Andrew, Michael and Sean former husband John and son in law Michael and lifelong friend Madeleine. She was predeceased by her daughter Kristi Lynn and sisters Gabrielle and Mary and nephew Ian. Her family remembers her as a woman who cherished her relationships and brought warmth to every gathering.
Lee's legacy is one of kindness, faith, and an unwavering dedication to helping others. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
