John T. “Jay” Ahearn, Jr. age 63, passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2026. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on July 23, 1962, son of John T. “Jack” Ahearn, Sr and the late Mary Ann Shea Ahearn. Jay grew up and spent
most of his life in Ansonia, Connecticut. In addition to his father, Jay is survived by his siblings: Maureen (Mitch) Rubin, Tim (Judy), Patrick (Kim) and Chris (Sarah) Ahearn; nieces: Kate Rubin (Alex Smith-fiancé), Hannah Ahearn, Abby Ahearn, Brighton Ahearn, Weston Ahearn, Triston Ahearn; nephews: Alex (Giani) Rubin, Doug Rubin, Jack Ahearn, Aidan Ahearn, aunt and Godmother Frances Gorman and many extended family members and friends. Jay is a communicant of Church of the Assumption and graduated from Assumption School in 1976. He attended Emmett O’Brien Regional Vocational Technical School, graduating in 1980 with a diploma in automotive studies. From his early teenage years through high school, Jay was always mechanically involved working at local auto repair facilities, Klanko's Service Station and Rose's Reliable Garage. After graduation, Jay began work at Sikorsky Aircraft and spent his ensuing years in a variety of professions including mechanic and truck driver and finishing as a custodian with the Ansonia School System. Jay will be remembered for his love of music, cooking and gardening, always willing to share his latest recipe or discussing how well the tomatoes were coming along with anyone who asked. However, it was riding his Harley that may have provided Jay with his happiest moments. As an avid motorcyclist, he experienced profound joy riding and fixing his and his friends' bikes. Blessed with the “gift of gab”, Jay had a natural ability to strike up a conversation or share a story with everyone he met. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his passing brings great sadness, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace resting pain free.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, 2026, 11:00am at the Church of the Assumption, 23 North Cliff Street, Ansonia, CT. All attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will follow in Mount St. Peter’s Cemetery, 219 New Haven Avenue, Derby, CT. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Sunday, April 19, 2026, 2:00pm – 5:00pm in the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 North Cliff Street, Ansonia, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Assumption School and/or /Assumption Church in care of Bennett Funeral Home.
