John Cornell Archbold, 42, of Haddonfield, New Jersey, passed away suddenly on September 10, 2025.
John is survived by his mother, Cassandra Archbold, his father, John Beckley Wright II, his wife, Emily Archbold, his son, Charles Cornell Archbold, his brother William Archbold, his sisters Alexandra and Gwendolen Archbold, his grandmother Janice Archbold, and his aunt, Cynthia Archbold as well as his stepmother, Brenda Wright, and stepbrother Andrew Jackson.
John was a graduate of Great Valley High School and Syracuse University. During his college years John was a beloved and respected Resident Advisor to freshman students, and while his friends were making extra money working shifts at McDonald's and Burger King, John made a study of the poker game Texas Hold Em and won consistently against experts at Turning Stone, a local casino. After graduation, John began his career in the financial services industry, where his dedication and intellectual rigor led him to earn the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. A respected member of both the CFA Society of Philadelphia and the CFA Institute, John most recently served as a Client Portfolio Manager with Aptus Capital Advisors of Fairhope, Alabama. He was a regular contributor to publications and other presentations on financial advisory topics, always with professional poise and command of his topic, and laced with his unique sense of humor. His expertise, professionalism, and unwavering integrity earned him the deep respect of his colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John's life was defined by his warmth, humor, and devotion to family. Growing up, he spent summers at his mother's family cottage on Lake Keuka in the Finger Lakes of New York, where he made many memories waterskiing behind his late grandfather's boat and playing cards and video games with his mother and siblings. He also attended Camp Tecumseh on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, forging friendships that endured through the years. John was an enthusiastic sports fan - particularly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles and the Tottenham Hotspur. John's love of sports extended to playing squash and court tennis at The Racquet Club of Philadelphia.
In 2016, John met his future wife, Emily Elling, in Philadelphia. They married in 2018 and welcomed their son, Charlie, in 2020. John took immense joy in fatherhood—teaching Charlie to play chess, sharing books and adventures at the playground, and cheering him on in every endeavor. His greatest happiness was found in the simple moments spent with his family, and his loyal Bernedoodle, Hilde, who was always by his side.
John will be remembered for his boundless kindness, his strong character, his wonderful sense of humor, and the deep love he gave to those fortunate enough to know him. His life, though far too short, was rich with meaning, accomplishments, connection, and grace.
