John Thomas Brady

John Thomas Brady beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2026 surrounded by his family in White Plains, NY.
John is survived by his wife Carla (McCurdy), sons John Brady and Daniel Brady; daughters Laura Ford, Susan Goodman, Patricia Gay, and Cara Lynn Jensen; grandchildren Elizabeth, Andrew, Calvert, Ryan, Jack Sr., Grace, Julia, Sara, Connor, Brendan, Tucker, Kyle and Jack Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Jack Brady of the Bronx, NY, who emigrated from Drumhowna and Cootehill, Ireland and his first wife, Jean (Tracey) Brady.

John was born on July 16, 1934 in the Bronx, NY. He graduated from the Bronx's Rice High School where he excelled in football, swimming and baseball. As a young man he was a lifeguard at the New York Athletic Club, a page at NBC studios and a laborer with the New York Central Railroad. He turned down an offer to play in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system to attend Iona College, where he mentored youth in Big Brothers of NY. Upon graduation he entered the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant and underwent basic training at Quantico, VA. He married, initially settling in Harrisburg, PA while he worked as a salesperson for General Electric. John entered broadcast radio sales, and his family moved to New Providence, then Summit, NJ. John returned to his NYC roots to live on Sutton Place as his career grew into Executive Vice President roles with Metromedia and RKO Radio. In the mid-70's he launched his marketing agency, John T. Brady and Associates at Amster Yard, and then 845 Third Avenue, where he would hang his entrepreneurial hat for the next four decades, serving clients such as the March of Dimes, Stop and Shop, the NFL, The Heisman Trophy and the artist Leroy Niemann. John wrote The Heisman: A Symbol of Excellence, Atheneum 1984.
He loved his family, tennis, touch-football in Central Park, family trips to Stratton, VT and the New York Botanical Gardens. He was a member of the Beacon Hill Club, The Downtown Athletic Club and the National Arts Club.

A wake to celebrate John's life and legacy will be held at Ballard Durand Funeral Home, 21 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY from 3:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, February 1st. Family, friends and those whose lives John touched are all invited.
