Obituary for John Martin

John Martin passed away peacefully on January 5th, leaving behind a life defined by adventure, grit, laughter, and deep connection to the people and places he loved.

John had an abiding love for the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, boating, or skiing, he felt most at home under open skies and near the water. His adventurous spirit carried him across the country—from North Carolina to California and many cities in between—but no matter where life took him, John was always a Carolina boy at heart.

Known for his huge personality and unmistakable presence, John had a rare gift for turning acquaintances into lifelong friends. Everywhere he went, he built strong bonds, shared stories, and left lasting impressions. His energy, humor, and authenticity drew people to him naturally.

John was also a passionate entrepreneur. Over the course of his life, he founded and ran numerous businesses, including several restaurants, a brewery, and farms. His ventures reflected his creativity, work ethic, and willingness to take risks—qualities that defined both his professional and personal life.

Above all else, John cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Alex; his beloved puppies, Holland, Dixie, and Rip; his mother, Mary Esther; Stan his stepfather, his sister, Tiffany Martin; and his brother, Edwin Martin. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

John's legacy lives on in the friendships he forged, the businesses he built, the adventures he embraced, and the countless memories he created along the way.
