Obituary for John J. Dallas
John J. Dallas, 77, of Longview, Washington, passed away on November 26, 2025. Born on March 12, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in Pottstown, PA.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and served honorably in Vietnam, where he was known for his dedication to his duties and his fellow servicemen. After returning home, he was employed with the Social Security Administration, Philadelphia then retired and relocated to Longview, WA, where he would spend the remainder of his life.
A devoted supporter of Veteran Associations, John remained committed to honoring and uplifting those who served. He became affectionately known as "Lt. Squirrel", by his family, a nickname inspired by his fascination with the history of Longview's Nutty Narrows Squirrel Bridge - a miniature suspension bridge built in 1963 to help squirrels safely cross the street, later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
John loved sports, a good book or movie. He cherished time with family and found happiness in life's simple pleasures.
John is survived by his brothers, Joe (wife Paulette), Leo, Tom (wife Cindy), Jim (wife Laurie) Tim (wife Debbie), Steve, and Bob (wife Linda) and his sisters Theresa, Mary, Kathy (husband Dennis), Susan (husband Brock) and Tricia and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary (McGarvey) Dallas, his brothers Michael and Eddie, his sister Denise (Dallas) Doto, niece Rachael Dallas, and nephews Jason Dallas and Thomas Leister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in John's honor on January 3, 2026 at 11:00 at St. Philip Neri Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd., Pennsburg, PA. Graveside services will follow at St. Neri Cemetery
John will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, his service, and the love he shared with his family and community.
