John David Delao passed away on November 25, 2025, in Modesto, California, at the age of 75. His passing came just two days after the loss of his beloved mother, Carmen Mosqueda Delao.
Born on July 19, 1950, in Stockton, California, John was the eldest child of Carmen Mosqueda Delao and John Delao Sr. From an early age, he demonstrated a deep commitment to education and faith—values that would guide him throughout his life. A devoted Catholic, John found strength and purpose through his beliefs.
John began his academic journey at San Joaquin Delta College before continuing on to Saint Mary's College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from San Jose University in 1973. His passion for learning led him to pursue further education, culminating in a Master of Education from the University of the Pacific in 1977 and a second Master's degree in Education from the University of San Francisco in 1986.
Over the course of a distinguished 35-year career as a teacher and school administrator, John left an enduring impact on countless students and colleagues. Known for his integrity and compassion, he brought unwavering dedication to every role he held within the educational community.
Outside of his professional life, John enjoyed a wide range of interests. He found joy in fishing, cooking, gardening, and sports. An active participant in softball, taekwondo, wrestling, soccer, and football over the years, he embraced both competition and camaraderie. A loyal fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.
John is remembered affectionately by his father, John Delao; his wife of twenty-five years, Alejandrina Barrera; his son, John Delao III; and grandsons Cameron and Dominic Delao. John also leaves behind siblings Laura Romero, Anthony R. Delao, Rosie Delao, Teresa Valdez, and Paul Delao. Aunt Helen Sanchez (Richard) Uncle Richard Mosqueda (Rita) Uncle Florentino Mosqueda Aunt Romelia Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother Carmen Mosqueda Delao. Also his Uncles George Mosqueda, Socorro T. Gonzales, Jessie Mosqueda; and cousin Steven R. Sanchez.
John will be laid to rest at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery in a private family ceremony held on the same day as his mother.
