John J. Dougherty (71) of Royersford, PA, passed away on February 18, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He was the oldest son of the late John J. and Joan T. Dougherty. John is survived by his son Eamon, ex-wife Jane, and siblings Pat, Joan, Anne, Dennis, Monica, Lorraine, Theresa, Mary, and Tom and many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
John grew up in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia and attended Bishop Neumann High School. He was a respected colleague at such companies as the Red Cross, De Lage Landen, and Supply Force. A habitual reader, John would spend much of his time enjoying the works of a variety of authors, Thomas Pynchon, James Joyce, or Jean-Paul Sartre, and amongst such varied topics as medieval art and architecture, algebra and philosophy, usually while listening to The Grateful Dead, Neil Young or Phil Ochs, among many other artists.
John enjoyed conversation on a variety of topics over a cup of coffee and an omelet or bacon cheeseburger at one of Philadelphia's many fine diners. A wry but goofy sense of humor with a hard Philadelphian edge were the hallmarks of his conversation style, frequently holding court with coworkers, family and friends and his eternal willing captive audience member, his son. Father and son enjoyed frequent walkabouts through Philadelphia to the various record stores, comic book shops and book merchants. John was a devoted and kind father, brother and son. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will occur, date TDB.
