John F. Flaherty of Naples, ME died on November 1, 2025. John was born in Quincy, MA on August 1, 1935, to Frederick J. Flaherty and Veronica C. (Clarkin) Flaherty. He was raised in Quincy along with his 6 siblings, Mary Mackenzie, Claire Flaherty, Frederick Flaherty, Paul Flaherty, David Flaherty and Anne Morrison. After graduating from Norfolk County Agricultural School, he served in the US army and was stationed in Ft. Belvoir, VA. There he met his wife, Janet, the mother of his 6 children. After the birth of their first child and completing his service, they moved to Quincy to raise their family. He worked construction jobs, drove heavy equipment and started his own print shop, Vonmark Printing, with his brother Freddie that he ran from his own home as a side business. He worked as a Union printer until he was injured in a job site accident. After he recovered, he began working for the New England Telephone Company as a Union telephone lineman. He later transitioned to management in the Printing department for the company where he worked until he retired and moved to Naples, ME. John was always keeping busy, he was talented at woodworking and carving and he loved being outdoors. He was usually gardening, building rock walls or just doing yard maintenance and if he wasn't doing it at his own home, he was always available to his family and friends to lend a helping hand. Even after his retirement he worked for many years in Naples as the Town Cemetery Custodian. John loved to travel, took his family on many road trips when they were young and continued to travel throughout his life. He enjoyed exploring new places, whether it was by car, train, boat or plane and sharing those experiences with the people he cared about. He also loved caring for his dogs and spending time with them, especially when he could do it on his deck overlooking the lake. Most of all he loved having his family around, after building a larger house on their property in Quincy in 1966 for his expanding family, he moved his mother & sister into the original house. He enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends, and his yearly clam bakes in Quincy were legendary. After moving to Maine, he continued to host family and friends and loved having people visit, especially his children and grandchildren.

He was the loving father of Veronica Dyer of Quincy, Kathleen O'Connor of NC, Patrick Flaherty of Quincy, Maureen Flaherty of RI, Michael Flaherty of Quincy and Dennis Flaherty of NH. John was also survived by 18 grandchildren: Christine Sheehan, Heather Romeri, Robert Dyer, Jennifer Hancock, Jillian Jacques, Derek Jacques, Daniel Jacques, Samantha O'Connor, Rachel O'Connor, Taryn O'Connor, Kerry O'Connor, Shannon Doherty, Ryanne Doherty, Justin Flaherty, Bryan Flaherty, Jenna Baumeister, Riley Flaherty, and John Flaherty along with 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as his most recent dog "the love of his life" Sadie.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of his life on Saturday, January 24, 2026 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm at The Common Market, 97 Willard Street, Quincy, MA.
