John H Anderson

1946 - 2026

John H. Anderson, 79 of Fort Mill, SC passed away on March 18, 2026 with his loving wife of 20 years, Elizabeth Jordan, by his side. Born on August 6, 1946, in Osage, IA as the son of a pastor, his childhood was spent in Osage, IA, Shannon, IL, and Forest Park, IL, before the family eventually settled in Antioch, IL.

John dedicated his career to education. After graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in education, he began his career as a teacher and basketball coach in Normal, IL. He was a dedicated professional continuing his service as a principal in O'Fallon, IL and a superintendent in both Walnut and Fairview Heights, IL while obtaining advanced degrees. He also spent several years with the Illinois State Board of Education. John took great pride in his professional life and instilled a strong work ethic in all who crossed his path.

Upon retiring, John enjoyed his time in Lake Geneva, WI before moving to Fort Mill. He was a man of varied interests. He loved canoeing on the Current River, embarking on cross-country road trips with friends, and traveling the continent by train. John was also known for his sharp sense of humor and love for legendary comedians like Bob Newhart and Jonathan Winters. He derived great enjoyment from keeping rarely used phrases such as "copacetic" and "okey dokey" in his daily rotation; these "Johnisms" will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

John was a devoted grandfather who took immense pride in his grandsons, Evan and Garrett. He cherished every moment spent with them and took great joy in watching them grow. John was a loving and supportive stepfather to Jordan, Cooper, and Henry Temple.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Luella, and his brother, Bernard (Bernie). He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jordan and her sons; his sons, Bob (Tressy) of Sterling Heights, MI and Dave (Gretchen) of South Windsor, CT; his sister, Penny (Didier) of Paris, France; and his grandsons. He also leaves behind many extended family members. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
