John Hanford, 70, passed away on November 14, 2025, in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Born on May 29, 1955, in Cortland, New York, John grew up in Groton and graduated from high school there in 1973.

On June 13, 1987, John married Anita Alexander, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 38 years. Together they shared a life filled with travel and service. Their journeys took them to Germany multiple times, where Anita’s friends quickly became John’s as well. One of their most cherished traditions was their annual trip to Cape Cod, always made more special by inviting different friends to join them. They also traveled together to support RBC (Regional Building Committee) and LDC (Local Design/Construction) projects throughout the area—efforts that reflected John's deep commitment to helping others.

John was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 10, 1970, in Syracuse, New York. His faith was central to his life. He served for several years as a regular pioneer and remained active in the ministry throughout his life. Known for leaving contact cards wherever he went and engaging others in conversations about his God, Jehovah—even during his final days in the hospital—John's dedication never wavered.

He had an extraordinary sense of humor that endeared him to many. Whether greeting everyone with a cheerful “Good Morning” regardless of the hour or introducing himself playfully as “Hezekiah,” John brought joy and laughter into every room he entered.

John is survived by Anita, his beloved wife; his son Jeremy; his sisters Donna Coffen and Veronica (Ted) Starzinski; his brother Terry (Linda) Hanford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Arlene Hanford.

John's legacy is one of generosity, warmth, and unwavering faith. He gave selflessly and without hesitation whenever there was a need. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and devotion.

Calling hours will be held on November 29, 2025, at 02:00 PM with a Funeral service to follow at 03:00 PM.
