1945-2026

John Michael Hilton passed away on January 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. True to his nature, John did not go quietly. He faced illness with determination and resolve; his perseverance reflected the strength and grit that defined him throughout his life.

John grew up in Quincy, CA, graduating from Quincy High School in 1963. He attended and played baseball at Sierra College before being drafted into the Marine Corps in 1965.

By trade, John was an electrical contractor, but he really was a jack of all trades. There was never a problem he wasn't willing to take on - whether it was troubleshooting, a simple repair, or a full-blown build. His skills extended far beyond commercial buildings and homes; John enjoyed painting and restoring vehicles. He started his career as a sign painter, and over the years, on the side, spent many hours lettering race cars and boats, work that combined his craftsmanship with an artistic eye. No matter the situation, if someone needed help, John showed up - tools in hand, ready to get to work.

He enjoyed coaching softball, watching baseball and spending time with his family at the beautiful cabin he built at Bucks Lake.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Betty; his sisters, Judy and her husband Charles, and Jane and her husband John; and his son-in-law, Steve.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his daughters, Cam and Melissa (Tim); his son, Mark (Megan); and his seven grandchildren, Nathan (Kennedy), Tyler, Mikayla (Blake), Alex, Emma, Ryane, and Laney. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and his legacy lives on through the family who loved him deeply.

Those who knew John will remember his tenacity, generosity, and enduring spirit. We can only hope that he is now at peace - perhaps enjoying a CC and Coke with those who went before him or speeding across a lake with his ball cap on backwards in his flat-bottom boat, Turmoil.

John will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Snowline Hospice.
