John Joseph Horgan, 77, passed away peacefully at Brightview Memory Care in Billerica due to complications of dementia.
John was born on June 14, 1948 in Boston to the late Dorothy and Cornelius John Horgan. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Cross and brother Charlie. He is survived by his sister Kathleen and her husband Richard Adams.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Lennox) of 55 years, his son Scott and wife Kori, daughter Kristin and husband David Unger and daughter Nicole. He leaves behind his 5 grandchildren, Vanessa, Corbin, Zachary, Kasandra, and Mason as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joining in 1968, John proudly served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic stationed in Patuxent River, Maryland. After his honorable discharge, he worked at H.P. Hood as a maintenance mechanic. After Hood, he worked for many years at both G.E. and Kodak in facilities management before landing at Cummings Properties. John worked as a carpenter completing office builds and fixing anything that needed it for 20 years, retiring in 2018. He loved working with people and would often talk about the office tenants he built relationships with over the years.
John was hard working and always had something to fix or build, including an addition on the house, a deck and too many home projects to count. You could usually find him in the garage or basement puttering around listening to the oldies. He was an avid collector of stuff and we would joke, "if you need something, go shop at Johnny's first". He loved spending time at the beach, both while at their house in Maine and on their many trips to Aruba. He also loved his dogs, Chloe and Cooper.
We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Wellspring team at Brightview in Billerica and the Beacon Hospice team for taking such good care of him these past few months. Your patience and kindness meant the world to us.
Private services will be held at a later date.
