John Clayton Horsfall, born September 28, 1926, in Seattle, Washington, passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 99.
He was the husband of the late Jean Welke; father of Michael (Jonalyn), Kenneth (Barbara), Cindy, and Carolyn (Cindy M); and brother of the late Frank. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. A Seattle native, he made Bellevue his home beginning in 1955.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in Naval Intelligence. He earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Washington. A lifelong Eagle Scout, he stayed active in Scouting, and enjoyed the Husky Marching Band Alumni, Seattle Flute Society, Traditional Jazz Society, the VFW, and the choir at Bellevue First Congregational Church. He also served as a Clyde Hill Councilman.
He was known for his humor and problem solving talents. He loved woodcarving, travel, sailing, cribbage, pool, and spending time outdoors.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 7th, at Silver Glen, 1750 - 152nd Ave. NE, Bellevue, WA. Guests are encouraged to wear bright colors.
