John "Jack" C. Halligan
October 21, 1933 — March 25, 2020
HALLIGAN, TSgt John "Jack" Charles United States Air Force Retired, of Rancho Cordova, CA entered the Kingdom of Heaven on March 25, 2020. Born October 21, 1933 in Cleveland, OH he was preceded in death by his devoted wife Leola M. (nee Naylon) Halligan; his parents William V. and Catherine M. (nee Corrigan) Halligan and his siblings Mildred Sherba/Beemer, Ruth Dietz, Jayne, William and James Halligan. Jack was the loving father of Colleen (Juan) Zuniga of San Antonio TX, John (Jack) (Tereasa) Halligan of Boise ID, Helen (Greg Bower)/(David) Taylor of Rancho Cordova CA and Sheila (Matthew) Lally of St Jacobs IL. Grandfather of Jessica (Lucas Jacobs), Ezechial and Hayden (Shelley Souza) Taylor; Caitlin and Benjamin Lally; and great grandfather to Tyler Jacobs; Westlee and Sawyer Taylor; and Morgan Montague with a little one on the way. Jack was a veteran who began his military career as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves in 1953. In 1958 he joined the U.S. Air Force as a reciprocating engine mechanic, retiring in 1979 as a production control scheduler. He loved camping and loved to travel and the military gave him plenty of that. With the exception of his numerous unaccompanied tours, Jack, like a drill sergeant, with family in tote, made several trips from the east coast, to the west coast, and back, and two accompanied overseas assignments to the Philippines and Germany. Jack and the family put some miles under their belt and learned how to set up camp, including putting up and taking down a tent in record time. After retiring he worked for Lockheed in Saudi Arabia for several years before returning to Rancho Cordova where he enjoyed working at McClellan AFB, Commissary. After his wife Leola passed, he made it his daily job to go to the Sunrise Waffle House and harass the waitresses and luckily they gave it right back to him. He was a devoted fan of the Sacramento Kings and the Oakland A's watching his games in his man cave there in the garage. Jack also loved swimming, vegetable gardening and fishing/crabbing and yes the family participated, sometimes not so enthusiastically, but guess what they know how to survive. Jack was a people person who was loved and will be dearly missed by all his family and his friends. Funeral and memorial services for John "Jack" Charles Halligan are postponed at this time due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic. He will be buried with military honors at the Calvary Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave, Citrus Heights, CA at a later date.
