Carabelle, FL- John Joseph Martin, age 82, of Carabelle, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 14th, 2025. John was born in Brazil, Indiana, on March 6, 1943, to John, Jr. and Harriett (Louderback) Martin. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1961.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha; children, Mark (Susan) Martin, Mindy (Doug) Savage, Matt (Yukari) Martin, and Travis (Jesse) Martin; grandchildren, Kendra, Chloe, Taryn, Cameron, Brennan, and Logan; and great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Lucas.
John loved to enjoy life, spending time with his family, friends, and cherished pets, or watching his beloved Chicago Bears, through thick and thin, were among his favorite things. He was known for his gregarious nature, kindness, and sense of humor; the adage "he never met a stranger" fit him well. "Johnny Joe" was a music lover and performer who sang in multiple music groups, spanning the genres of R&B and Rock and Roll throughout his high school years and into early adulthood. He was also an animal lover and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, foraging for mushrooms, and dedicating time to rescuing and caring for many species of animals over the years. He enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren learn to appreciate and respect nature and to share in his love and care for all animals.
John applied his personal passions for all things outdoors and nature-related by proudly becoming an Indiana Conservation Officer, based in the Greene/Sullivan County region of the state, in 1972. His strong core belief in the importance of Hunter Education classes, a program initiated in Indiana in 1975, focused on firearm handling safety, accident avoidance, and the core principles of safe gun use, helped him log some of the highest numbers of successfully trained high school students in the state at that time. John also served in many volunteer capacities, both during his time as a Conservation Officer and also following his retirement, including terms as treasurer and president of Linton Lodge #105 of the Fraternal Order of Police.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date. In place of flowers or gifts, memorials may be directed to your local humane society.
