John P. O'Malley passed away suddenly on February 3, 2026, at the young age of 57. He was the beloved son of the late John and Maureen (nee Tiernan); dearest brother of Mary Clifton (Chris) and Michael (the late Amy); loving uncle to Christopher (Julia), Kevin (Grace), Michael (Madolin), Matthew (Monica), Kayla and Kiera; cherished great-uncle to Shea, Riley, Kevin, Liam and Talula.

John was born and raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast Catholic High School after never missing a day of school in twelve years. John spent most of his life on the sea. He joined the U.S. Navy immediately after high school and retired after 20 years of service. Soon after retiring from the Navy, John joined the Merchant Marines and worked on numerous MSC ships for nearly eighteen years until his untimely passing. Throughout his career, John traveled the world. He had an impeccable work ethic, rarely taking any well-deserved time off. He loved Philadelphia sports, especially the Phillies, and followed their season no matter how far away he was stationed. He would often call home just to let his family know if a player or coach was hired or terminated or he would recap an intense game and then hurriedly end the call without any further conversation. He knew the statistics of every baseball player and could recite the winner of every World Series since its inception. John loved his family and, more importantly, the dogs in his family. He would always ask how the dogs were before anyone else. He was unassuming in a room and had a heart that was bigger than himself. He was incredibly generous and would help anyone who was ever in need. His Navy and MSC colleagues were family to John, and he spoke fondly of them throughout his career. John will forever hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the fortune to know him.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing, Monday, February 9th, 9:30 to 10:30 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Church, 820 Susquehanna Rd. Rydal, PA 19046 followed by Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation if desired.
