John Palade, affectionately known as "Johnny Boy," passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on January 22, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on April 11, 1935, John led a long and fulfilling life that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A native of the Chicago suburbs and a proud graduate of Leyden High School, John was a man who never met a stranger. He maintained lifelong connections with friends from his school days, extended family members, and colleagues he encountered throughout his career. His humor, kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for family and friends remained constants in his life until the very end.
John began his career in construction but soon discovered his entrepreneurial spirit. In 1979, he co-founded Palade Paving with his sons, embracing the role of leader with enthusiasm and dedication. He managed the company successfully until his retirement in 2009. After retiring, John moved to sunny Arizona, where he fell in love with the desert landscape, warm climate, surrounding mountains, and vibrant community. His Phoenix home became a welcoming haven for visitors from near and far—a place filled with laughter, stories, and cherished memories. Even Peanut, his beloved Chihuahua, enjoyed their early morning golf cart rides around the neighborhood.
John had many passions that brought joy to his life. He loved fishing, boating, hunting, and flying; however, nothing surpassed his deep devotion to family connections. He took immense pride in nurturing those bonds and celebrating the lives of those closest to him.
He will be deeply missed by his five children: Cheryl Newton (Rick) of Warrenton, MO; Terry Palade (AnnMarie) of Glendale Heights, IL; Robin McCaffrey (David) of Carriere, MS; Steve Palade (Donna) of Round Lake Beach, IL; and Patrick Jones (Toni) of Lodi, WI. John’s legacy also lives on through his nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren—with two more on the way—who will carry forward his memory with love.
John shared cherished relationships with his siblings: Bob (Pinky) Palade; Jean (Neil) Cieslak; Cookie Quinn (late husband Ron Cowl); Vikki Daidone (late husband Barry); Dolly Dollhopf (husband Carl), both deceased; and Marie Peterson (husband Pete), both deceased. He was also deeply loved by sisters-in-law Parri Palade (late husband Jim), Connie Palade (late husband Pete) and lots of nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Marcy Jones; his first wife Irene Smith; their son John Palade; as well as by his parents John and Elsie Palade.
John’s zest for life and boundless capacity for love left an unforgettable impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His warmth and generosity touched countless lives—he will be remembered fondly by all who crossed paths with him.
A Celebration of Life will take place on April 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Linda Jackson Center for Senior Citizens’ Community Room located at 260 Civic Center Plaza. Family and friends are invited to gather together to honor John’s remarkable life.
May the memory of John Palade bring comfort to those who knew him as they celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
