John Stephen Rakoczy, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Henry Ford Hospital in Warren, Michigan. He was born on February 20, 1948, in Hamtramck, Michigan, son of the late John and Wanda (Galek) Rakoczy.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-years, Carole; his parents John and Wanda; and his sisters Marilyn and Lillian. He is survived by his loving daughters Michele (Perry) and Amber (Johnathon), and was a proud Puppa to Brian, Brandon, Stephanie, and Madison. John also leaves behind his sister Loretta (Joe), and brother-in-law, Robert.
John carried with him the values of hard work and perseverance throughout his life. He had a deep love for automobiles and could often be found 'putzing' in the garage—a pastime that brought him both joy and pride. He was an avid fan of motorsports and enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag racing. John also loved to travel, especially throughout Michigan, enjoying many weekend adventures and road trips with Carole. In particular, he held a special fondness for the Mackinac Bridge, a place that symbolized both adventure and serenity for him. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family, and caring for his pals Lexi, Jack, and Natasha. Whether gathered around the dinner table, enjoying a shared outing, or giving out great big bear hugs, those moments were among his most treasured.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, located at 48115 Schoenherr Road, in Shelby Township, Michigan 48315. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM, followed by Mass at 10:00AM. The family invites you to join them for refreshments and fellowship immediately following the Mass in the parish social hall.
